6/25      Thursday 9:30 Butternut Trails, High Rock Vista Circuit: Drive 7 mi to Worlds End State Park. Hike the Butternut Trail to Butternut Vista, then along an old woods road, crossing High Rock Run to the LT. Follow the LT to High Rock Vista, then take the High Rock Run Trail to return through Worlds End Park to the start of the hike. 3.6 mi            Ruth Rode.

6/30      Tuesday 10:00 Owl Pellet Study: Laporte Community Hall. Do you know what an owl pellet is? Come and learn about this interesting phenomenon of nature. Dissect your own pellet and take it home with you! Appropriate for all ages.         Rosanne

7/2       Thursday 9:30 Old Davidson Road & Dutchman Swamp: Bring Binoculars! Drive 11 mi above Nordmont to leave car(s) for return, then drive 6 mi to the start of this hike. Hike out Old Davidson Road through SGL 13 and take a short side excursion to Heron Rookery in Dutchman Swamp. Continue past swamp to cars. 4.2 mi Wilson Ferguson.

7/7       Tuesday 10:00 Orienteering and Geocaching Workshop: Park along route 42 in front of the Sullivan Co. Courthouse. Learn how to use a map and compass while navigating the trails at the CRWA. Learn what the global game of “geocaching” is all about. Bring a compass and GPS if you have them. Rosanne and Kim.
7/7       Tuesday 7:30 P.M. Local History of Civil War Events: DeWire Center. In this informative program Skip Conant will cover the war generally, with emphasis on Gettysburg and the involvement of some local people including Robert Bruce Ricketts and Joel Molyneux. A Betsy Moore program
7/8       Wednesday 10-12:30 Double Run Nature Trail: Outlet Pond. All ages. Carpool to Worlds End State Park. This beautiful trail follows a stream with small waterfalls and deep pools. 2 mi with a few steep rough spots
7/9       Thursday 9:30 Satterfield to Ringdale on W&NB RR: Drive north on 220 for 8.7 mi and leave cars for return. Continue on 220 for 3.5 mi to the starting point in Satterfield. Hike the W&NB RR grade south to Ringdale. 4.2 miles. Wilson Ferguson

7/13      Monday 7:00 P.M. “Green-Greener Forum I” - Natural Gas Leasing ~ Benefits and Challenges: Eagles Mere Community Hall. There will be a forum with Charlie Schwarz a representative of the Northcentral PA Conservancy and the Sullivan County Commissioners to provide an update on current natural gas drilling/leasing activities and discuss potential environmental challenges.
7/14      Tuesday 9:30 Wilderness Way to Haystacks: Drive 6 mi to begin hike on Mead Rd. Hike on old woods roads to RR grade then hike to Haystacks. Return to RR grade and hike another old woods road up to new trail that follows along “Brook Kedron” past numerous bedrock waterfalls. Trail continues up to Mead Road then walk short distance on road to cars. 2 mi.  Jack Leo

7/16      Thursday 9:30 Hiking at Mary Cosgrove’s on the Loyalsock: We have been graciously invited to enjoy her retreat on the Loyalsock. Drive 9 mi to Mary Cosgrove’s retreat off Rock Run Road where we will have the opportunity to hike various trails and, if desired, swim in the Loyalsock.
7/17      Friday 10-11:30 Feather and Fang: All ages. Have you ever “grokked” a tree or joined in a “thumbless relay”? Here’s your chance as we explore some of the amazing adaptations animals have evolved in order to survive. Note: This is also the Bug Olympics rain date. We will keep you posted.

7/21      Tuesday 11:00 Berry Field Farm: Park along route 42 in front of the Sullivan Co. Courthouse. Learn about sustainable farming at this Sullivan County Gem. 7/23      Thursday 9:30 Castle Rock & Panther Den (old Blue Arrow):  Hike on the private land of the Dwight Lewis Lumber Co, which is used by members of the Eagles Mere Recreation Club. We will hike from the Outlet Pond down the EM RR grade to a new trail down to the spring on the Blue Arrow Path. Then hike a portion of the old Wenonah Trail crossing over to the RR grade and back the grade to the spring. Continue on the old Blue Arrow Path to Castle Rock and Panther Den and complete the hike up the EM RR grade to the Outlet Pond. 4 mi  Jack Leo

7/29      Wednesday 7:30 P.M. Mix and Match Nature Hunt Challenge: Gazebo on the Village Green. Younger children must be accompanied by an older sibling or adult. This variation of a scavenger hunt is a fun way to learn about some of our natural surroundings by matching written descriptions with what you can find on the Green and Lower Dell.  Irene
7/30      Thursday 9:30 Canyon Vista to Double Run Road: Drive 5 mi & leave cars on Double Run Road across from Coal Mine Road for return, then drive 4 mi to Canyon Vista to start the hike. Hike up through the Canyon Vista rock garden and then continue on an unblazed trail along a rock escarpment to RX6, right on RX6 to old RR grade, right on RR grade to LT, then left on LT/Loyalsock Canyon Vista trails. There will be a forum to talk about current lake conditions, the health of our forests and a new Urban Forestry initiative. 8/7       Friday 10-11:30 Incredible Insects & Bug Olympics: Cabin. All Ages. Meet some local insects and learn some of the important roles they play in the environment. Then…Let the games begin! Bug contestants will be collected on site at each event. Human participants work in teams to enter their bug athlete. Medals will be awarded. Rain date is August 14.  Irene
8/8       Saturday 10-12 Gnome Homes: Cabin. Intergenerational. Build a home or village for a gnome out of dried woodland materials. Construction sites will be carefully selected and environmental impact considered. Our structures will be there for all to see who travel on the old railroad bed by the log cabin. Viv

8/11      Tuesday 9:30 Rock Escarpment Ramble: Outlet Pond. Intergenerational. (5 YRS. AND UP BUT THE YOUNG ONES NEED TO BE GOOD WALKERS.) Drive 7 miles to pull-off 1 mile from the Loyalsock Canyon Vista overlook on Cold Run Rd. Hike old lumber road to rock labyrinth on Canyon Vista Trail, then walk along lower edge of escarpment through interesting rock features to return to cars. (Wear sturdy hiking shoes for level but rocky terrain.) 1 mi. Jack Leo

Hike the Falls trail down to an old RR grade near Rusty Run, go right on grade to shared use trail. Follow shared use trail along Shanersburg Run down to Flat Rock on the Loyalsock. 4.6 miles Ruth Rode

8/17      Monday 7:15 P.M. Bats over Edgemere: Meet at the Edgemere Dock. Intergenerational. You’ll wish you had bats in your neighborhood after learning about this night-time animal. Hear a story and create flip sticks showing the perfect bat habitat with your very own bat happily devouring gnats and mosquitoes. At dusk, we will watch the ballet of the bats. Viv
8/18      Tuesday 8:30 A.M. Kayak Trip down the Susquehanna River: Outlet Pond. We will drive to Watsontown to the Southside of the bridge and take a bus to Montgomery and load onto the kayaks for a 7 mile trip back to Watsontown to our cars. We should arrive about 1 PM. 8/20      Thursday 9:30 Canyon Vista Rock Gardens Circuit: Drive about 7 miles to Canyon Vista. Hike up through the Canyon Vista rock garden and then continue on an unblazed trail along a rock escarpment to RX6, left on RX6 to its connection with the LT, right on LT then right on Canyon Vista Trail. Just before Canyon Vista Trail begins its descent we continue on an unblazed trail along lower edge of escarpment through interesting rock features. Left on Cold Run Road for a short distance to an old RR grade, then right on grade over to the LT/Loyalsock Canyon Vista Trail and return to start. 4.2 miles   Jack Leo

After lunch, blueberries, and a brief historic exploration at Celestia, we will hike down another old road to and across Shanerburg Run to return to Flat Rock. 5.2 mi. Wilson Ferguson  Swimming at Flat Rock is optional (note: those who do not wish to make the entire circuit will need to arrange to have cars at Celestia in order to return to Eagles Mere)

9/3       Thursday 9:30 Coal Mine Road Circuit on LT: We will drive 6.6 miles and park where the hike will end on Coal Mine Road. Hike a short distance along Coal Mine Rd to the LT, then hike LT past Alpine View, Rode Falls, RX4 to Lee’s Falls, then left on LT to an old woods road. Right on woods road back up to the cars on Coal Mine Road. 2.8 mi Ruth Rode
