Newsletter January 2008

Happy New Year from Eagles Mere!

As I write this on January 11, 2008, there is no snow on the ground. We are having plenty of rain and wind, though. The prospects for the building of the Slide seem dim just now because there is very little ice on the lake and warmer weather is predicted.
At the Reorganization Meeting on January 7th Bill Feese was re-elected Borough Council President and Peter Glaubitz was re-elected Vice President. Bob Ryan, a newly elected Borough Councilor, was appointed President Pro-Tem.
Other appointments made by Bill Feese were the following:
Vacancy Board – Tim Borges
EM Borough Authority – Dave Switzer, Paul Booth
Museum Commissioners – Joanne Smith, Elaine Mudrick, Kay Wilson, Barb James, Phil McDermott,  Trudy Whitmoyer, Charlie Gardner and Peter Glaubitz. Mary Mooney was appointed to replace Ginny Coniff who is retiring from the Museum Commission.
Zoning Hearing Board – Gene Mooney, and Julie Adams as an alternate.
Zoning/Ordinance Officer – Kay Wilson
Parking Officer – Adam Maczuga
Solicitor – Brett Feese
Emergency Management – Wendy Hastings
Sewer Enforcement Officers – Paul Baron, Virginia Miller
Engineer - Larson Design Group
Shade Tree Commission – Kevin McFadden
Mr. Feese will appoint Council members to special committees such as Finance, Infrastructure, Personnel, etc. at the next meeting in February.

The Community Organizations Meeting will take place on Sat., March 22nd (Easter week-end) at Borough Hall at 2 PM. Please send a representative from your organization to discuss plans and schedules for the coming 2008 season.

The addition to the Community Hall being built by the Fire Company is well under way and should be finished by the summer.

The Sweet Shop serves a fine breakfast on winter weekends and I urge you to try it when you are in town. The Crestmont and Eagles Mere Inn are open Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. Reservations are requested.

In addition, Becky Bird's shop, The Book Store, Dorothy Fisher's shop and the Museum are open on weekends at irregular hours. Posted on the Museum door you will find the names and telephone numbers of several Commissioners who will gladly conduct you through the Museum on a private tour if they are available.

The Borough Councilors are working hard for you and the state of the Borough is fine. All is relatively quiet now, but Spring is on the way!
